Dr. Tawfik Hamid, is an Islamic thinker and reformer, and one time Islamic extremist from Egypt. He was a member of a terrorist Islamic organization, J.I. with Dr. Ayman Al-Zawaherri who became later on the second in command of Al-Qaeda. Some twenty-five years ago, he recognized the threat of Radical Islam and the need for a reformation based upon modern peaceful interpretations of classical Islamic core texts. In this CSPAN video, Dr. Hamid talks about what could be next for Egypt, including identifying the competing political forces inside that country, and what kind of repercussions the Egyptian revolution could have on other Arab countries.

Tue, 15 Feb 2011 19:38:00 -0800 "Islamist-supporters infiltrate Obama Admin to subvert US security," reveals ex-CIA'er, Clare Lopez http://middlebeast.org/islamist-supporters-infiltrate-obama-admin-to http://middlebeast.org/islamist-supporters-infiltrate-obama-admin-to

Islamist-allied operatives appointed by Obama are undermining U.S. security policy – explains counter-Intelligence expert, Prof. Clare Lopez. Aimed at co-opting Americas foreign policy in the Middle East, a network including well-known American diplomats, congressional representatives, figures from academia and the think tank world – with ties to the clerical regime in Tehran – is directing the Obama Administration’s policy towards the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Middle East.

An ex-CIA agent and counter-intelligence expert has revealed in a special report that Barack Obama has quietly appointed members of the Muslim Brotherhood to key posts within the Administration. Dr. Clare Lopez, professor at the Centre for Counterintelligence and Security Studies, wrote a policy paper in December of 2009 which details the systematic appointment of Sharia-friendly advocates within the State Department and other government agencies.

For example, the Tehran-born Dr. Vali Nasr was appointed to co-direct Obama foreign policy toward Afghanistan and Pakistan. Former Saudi Arabian supplicant Charles Freeman was appointed by Obama to chair the Administration's National Intelligence Council, but withdrew his name when it was revealed he issued a 2-page screed in which he postulated a conspiracy theory claiming he had been 'victimized' by American supporters of Israel. In addition, John Limbert was appointed to direct U.S. policy toward the Islamist regime in Iran. Limbert, who was taken hostage during the Iranian upheaval of the late 70s-early 80s, is an Iranian sympathizer who advocates negotiation with one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world.
A video of Lopez's assessment of Islamist influence in the Obama Administration can be found in the top left column.
While it is true that some of the initial appointees have departed from the Administration, the fix was already in. The Obama Administration is manned by Sharia-friendly appointees who help steer American foreign policy in the Middle East.

Why is this relevant to 2011?

Events which are currently unfolding in the Middle East are a consequence of the behind-the-scenes work of Islamic advocates within the Administration.
According to reports issued by NewsRealBlog, RedState, and LaborUnionReport, secret documents released by Wikileaks indicate that the United States government has been in the process of planning social and political upheaval in the Middle East for at least 2 years--beginning during the waning days of the Bush Administration and continuing under Obama. The goal was to push moderate Muslim dictators out the door in countries such as Egypt, while advocating so-called 'democracy' which would then insure the rise of Muslim Brotherhood-supported Islamists to fill the power-gap.

How would such a grand scheme be accomplished?

The reports expose a consortium of Leftwing organizations, Islamic groups, labor unions, and Obama-friendly corporations which would organize and fund a 'youth movement' in certain areas around the Middle East which would then take to the streets in protest against current governments.
Some of the corporations involved are Google, YouTube, MSNBC, Facebook, National Geographic, M-TV, and Pepsi. In addition, the U.S. State Department, Columbia Law School, and various Islamic extremist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR, and others are central to the plot.
The goal is to set in motion a domino effect, hoping that regime-change in Eqypt would spread to other nations in the Middle East, and eventually destabilize Europe, and ultimately, the United States.

No sooner had Mubarak been ousted in Eqypt than demands were issued for war with Israel. Egypt's government and Constitution were abolished by the military. The Camp David Accords, which has kept peace between Egypt and Israel since the 1970s, was discarded.

Then, Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi issued a call to the Muslim world to wage war with Israel. There is upheaval in Jordon and Lebannon as well--Israel's closest neighbors.

And while the Obama Administration rushed to jump out in front of the uprising in Egypt to praise its so-called 'push for democracy,' a similar uprising this week in Iran has been met with deafening silence.

Why?

Perhaps some basic facts will provide clues.

Obama's top national security advisor declared that the Muslim Brotherhood is a 'secular' organization, non-extremist, and dedicated to 'peace.' Obama himself, in an interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, refused to refer to the Brotherhood as an Islamic extremist organization, in spite of the fact that the group's own charter, and recent statements made by its leadership, indicate exactly that.

And a Muslim board member of CPAC, of all things, declared in a news conference that 'there is no Muslim Brotherhood in the United States,' despite the fact that the group issued a document in 1991 indicating its North American objectives.

At the very least it is clear that things are not as they seem on the surface in Eqypt, Iran, nor within the Obama Administration and the American Muslim community. And, due to the fact that the mainstream media merely parrots the official Administration propaganda, the American people are being bamboozled.

Sat, 18 Dec 2010 19:00:00 -0800 Christian exodus as Iraq army fails them http://middlebeast.org/christian-exodus-as-iraq-army-fails-them http://middlebeast.org/christian-exodus-as-iraq-army-fails-them

• The monastery of the Virgin Mary in Qosh has opened its doors to fleeing families. Photograph: Shiho Fukada

The flight - involving thousands of Christians from Baghdad and Mosul, in particular - followed an October siege at a church in Baghdad in which 51 worshippers and two priests were killed, and a subsequent series of bombings and assassinations singling out Christians.

This new exodus highlights the continuing displacement of Iraqis despite improved security overall and the near-resolution of the political impasse that gripped Iraq after elections in March.

It threatens to reduce further what Archdeacon Emanuel Youkhana of the Assyrian Church of the East called "a community whose roots were in Iraq even before Christ".

Those who fled the latest violence - many of them in a panic, with only the possessions they could pack in cars - warned that the new violence augurs the demise of Christianity in Iraq. Several compared it to the mass departure of Iraq's Jews after the founding of the state of Israel in 1948.

"It's exactly what happened to the Jews," said Nassir Sharhoom, 47, who fled last month to the Kurdish capital, Irbil, with his family from Dora, a once mixed area of Baghdad. "They want us all to go."

Iraq's leaders, including prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, have pledged to tighten security and appealed for tolerance for minority faiths in what is an overwhelmingly Muslim country.

"The Christian is an Iraqi," he said after visiting those wounded in the siege of the church, Our Lady of Salvation, the worst single act of violence against Christians since 2003. "He is the son of Iraq and from the depths of a civilisation that we are proud of."

For those who fled, though, such pronouncements have been met with growing scepticism. The daily threats, the uncertainty and palpable terror many Christians face have overwhelmed even the pleas of church leaders not to abandon their historic place in a diverse Iraq.

"Their faith in God is strong," said the Reverend Gabriele Tooma, who heads the monastery of the Virgin Mary, part of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Qosh, which opened its cloisters to 25 families in recent weeks.

Thu, 24 Jun 2010 23:08:53 -0700 Faisal Shahzad, Jihadi, Explains Terrorism, Proves Obama Wrong http://middlebeast.org/faisal-shahzad-jihadi-explains-terrorism-prov http://middlebeast.org/faisal-shahzad-jihadi-explains-terrorism-prov

Jaw-dropping court testimony by Faisal Shahzad, the would-be Times Square bomber, singlehandedly undermines Obama administration efforts to ignore the dangers of Islamism and jihad.

Shahzad's forthright statement of purpose stands out because jihadis, when facing legal charges, typically save their skin by pleading not guilty or plea bargaining. Consider a few examples:

  • Naveed Haq, who assaulted the Jewish Federation building in Seattle, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
  • Lee Malvo, one of the Beltway Snipers, explained that "one reason for the shootings was that white people had tried to harm Louis Farrakhan." His partner John Allen Muhammad claimed his innocence to the death chamber.
  • Hasan Akbar killed two fellow American soldiers as they slept in a military compound, then told the court ""I want to apologize for the attack that occurred. I felt that my life was in jeopardy, and I had no other options. I also want to ask you for forgiveness."
  • Mohammed Taheri-azar, who tried to kill students on the University of North Carolina by running over them in a car and issued a series of jihadi rants against the United States, later experienced a change of heart, announced himself "very sorry" for the crimes he committed, and asked for release so that he can "re-establish myself as a good, caring and productive member of society" in California.

These efforts fit a broader pattern of Islamist mendacity; rarely does a jihadi stand on principle. Zacarias Moussaoui, 9/11's would-be twentieth hijacker, came close: his court proceedings began with his refusing to enter a plea (which the presiding judge translated into "not guilty") and then, one fine day, pleading guilty to all charges.

Thu, 17 Jun 2010 17:22:07 -0700 Former Spanish Prime Minister: Support Israel - if it goes down, we all go down http://middlebeast.org/former-spanish-prime-minister-support-israel http://middlebeast.org/former-spanish-prime-minister-support-israel

Anger over Gaza is a distraction. We cannot forget that Israel is the West’s best ally in a turbulent region

For far too long now it has been unfashionable in Europe to speak up for Israel. In the wake of the recent incident on board a ship full of anti-Israeli activists in the Mediterranean, it is hard to think of a more unpopular cause to champion.

In an ideal world, the assault by Israeli commandos on the Mavi Marmara would not have ended up with nine dead and a score wounded. In an ideal world, the soldiers would have been peacefully welcomed on to the ship. In an ideal world, no state, let alone a recent ally of Israel such as Turkey, would have sponsored and organised a flotilla whose sole purpose was to create an impossible situation for Israel: making it choose between giving up its security policy and the naval blockade, or risking the wrath of the world.

In our dealings with Israel, we must blow away the red mists of anger that too often cloud our judgment. A reasonable and balanced approach should encapsulate the following realities: first, the state of Israel was created by a decision of the UN. Its legitimacy, therefore, should not be in question. Israel is a nation with deeply rooted democratic institutions. It is a dynamic and open society that has repeatedly excelled in culture, science and technology.

Second, owing to its roots, history, and values, Israel is a fully fledged Western nation. Indeed, it is a normal Western nation, but one confronted by abnormal circumstances.

Uniquely in the West, it is the only democracy whose very existence has been questioned since its inception. In the first instance, it was attacked by its neighbours using the conventional weapons of war. Then it faced terrorism culminating in wave after wave of suicide attacks. Now, at the behest of radical Islamists and their sympathisers, it faces a campaign of delegitimisation through international law and diplomacy.

Sixty-two years after its creation, Israel is still fighting for its very survival. Punished with missiles raining from north and south, threatened with destruction by an Iran aiming to acquire nuclear weapons and pressed upon by friend and foe, Israel, it seems, is never to have a moment’s peace.

For years, the focus of Western attention has understandably been on the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians. But if Israel is in danger today and the whole region is slipping towards a worryingly problematic future, it is not due to the lack of understanding between the parties on how to solve this conflict. The parameters of any prospective peace agreement are clear, however difficult it may seem for the two sides to make the final push for a settlement.

The real threats to regional stability, however, are to be found in the rise of a radical Islamism which sees Israel’s destruction as the fulfilment of its religious destiny and, simultaneously in the case of Iran, as an expression of its ambitions for regional hegemony. Both phenomena are threats that affect not only Israel, but also the wider West and the world at large.

The core of the problem lies in the ambiguous and often erroneous manner in which too many Western countries are now reacting to this situation. It is easy to blame Israel for all the evils in the Middle East. Some even act and talk as if a new understanding with the Muslim world could be achieved if only we were prepared to sacrifice the Jewish state on the altar. This would be folly.

Israel is our first line of defence in a turbulent region that is constantly at risk of descending into chaos; a region vital to our energy security owing to our overdependence on Middle Eastern oil; a region that forms the front line in the fight against extremism. If Israel goes down, we all go down.

Thu, 17 Jun 2010 11:43:47 -0700 Senior Israeli Official: 'Obama is Israel's biggest strategic catastrophe' http://middlebeast.org/senior-israeli-official-obama-is-israels-bigg http://middlebeast.org/senior-israeli-official-obama-is-israels-bigg

Although Israeli officials publicly play down the crisis in relations between Jerusalem and Washington, privately the language is much different. Sources close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describe Obama as a "strategic catastrophe" for Israel.

Officials in the Prime Minister's Office, speaking on condition of anonymity to the nation's top newspapers, see the Obama administration as a serious threat to the future of the State of Israel. On the record, Israel and the US have a "strategic partnership that is unbreakable"; off the record, the terminology is blunt to say the least.

"President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have drawn a clear line, supporting the Palestinian position at the expense of Israel," said one Netanyahu confidant. "It is insane, it is sick. Relations between Jerusalem and Washington are simply disastrous; the situation has never been so dangerous. This US President wants to establish a Palestinian state at any price and hand them Jerusalem on a silver platter."

Netanyahu has repeatedly distanced himself from such statements, but commentators say the government speaks with a forked tongue. "Israel's relations with the US are at a low point, and Obama poses a danger to Israel," wrote Nahum Barnea in the nation's biggest newspaper Yediot Ahronot.

The feeling among the Israeli public is that Obama is appeasing the Muslim world at the expense of Israel.

"The American President told me in confidence that he is a Muslim," said Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Nile TV. That could explain why Obama has instructed that the term "Islamic extremism" no longer be used in official government documents and statements.

Furthermore, the US is now accusing Israel of harming American interests in the Middle East. General David Petraeus, the head of US Central Command, said Israel's intransigence on resolving the conflict with the Palestinians is endangering US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Even the US Congress considers Obama's behavior toward Netanyahu humiliating. Three-quarters of the House of Representatives, 337 of 435 members, signed a bipartisan letter to Clinton expressing "deep concern over recent tension" between the two countries, and demanding that it be smoothed over quickly and in private.

"Obama is a real problem for Israel," a senior official told told Yediot. "He is Israel's biggest strategic catastrophe."

Tue, 08 Jun 2010 09:10:43 -0700 15 facts about the Palestinians you won't hear from the mainstream media http://middlebeast.org/15-facts-about-the-palestinians-you-wont-hear http://middlebeast.org/15-facts-about-the-palestinians-you-wont-hear By Ron Cantor, Messiah’s Mandate

http://messiahsmandate.org

I wrote this nearly 10 years ago, but after hearing Chris Cotter on Fox New’s Redeye so confidently declare following words, I thought it was time to edit and resend:

Referring to Helen Thomas’ statement that the Jews should ‘get the hell out of Palestine’ Cotter said, “[Thomas] remembers [before 1948] when Palestine was a nation.” Somehow, a reporter on the Fox Business Channel assumed that Israel came into being by taking over an Arab country called Palestine. Hopefully he knows his stocks better than his history. Sadly no one on the show, including Greg Gutman, the Jewish host, corrected him. So I will…

No Mr. Cotter, Palestine was not a nation in 1947, 46 or 45, not in 1847 or 1047 or 47. In fact, Palestine has never been a nation. To be fair, so many, not just Cotter, simply assume these things from what they pick up in the media. So let us look at these 15 facts.

I. Palestine was NOT an Arab nation that the Jews came in and took over after the UN vote in 1947.

A. Great Britain in fact controlled that region of the Middle East until she grew tired of governing the volatile area and asked the UN to decide what to do with it.

B. Before Great Britain won the land in WWI, the Turks had controlled it since the early 1500s. Turks are not Arabs.

C. In fact, Palestine has never been the name of any country!

II. Where did the name come from?

A. The Romans!

B. In an effort to rid Judea of its Jewishness, the Romans renamed the area Filistia (Palestine) in the mid-130s CE. They were tired of pesky Jewish uprisings and so decided to deport the Jews and change the name. The name came from the ancient Philistines (who have no connection to present day Arabs. The Philistines were wiped out in 1200 BCE).[i]

C. It was a region not a nation. There has never been a president of Palestine (before Arafat), or a government of Palestine! It could be compared to New England, which is a region in America and has no government.

III. The UN Vote did not merely give Israel authority to create a state, but granted to the Arabs living on the West side of the Jordan river to also create an independent country.

A. The Arabs rejected it. They could have had their own nation in 1948, but they said no.

B. The Jews accepted it and on May 14th, 1948 Israel was re-birthed.

C. The Arabs became part of Jordan.

IV. When the PLO was created Jordan controlled the West Bank.

A. The goal of the PLO was to liberate Palestine. However the West Bank was already in Arab hands.

B. They wanted Israel.

C. In other words, if their goal was to create an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank, they should’ve been fighting Jordan not Israel!

D. Of course, their goal was Israel’s demise.

V. Before Israel was re-birthed in 1948, any person who lived in that region was considered Palestinian: Arab or Jew. The Jewish newspaper was called the Palestine Post.

A. QUESTIONS:

1. Why would any Jew name his newspaper after another people group?

2. Why would any Jew name his paper after an Arab country?

VI. Jerusalem was first capital of Israel under King David. It has never been the capital of any other country—Including the fictitious Palestine. It has never (until Israel controlled it) been significant to Arabs.

A. In others words you will not find these words in the Koran, but the Hebrew Scriptures:

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. (Ps. 137: 5-6)

VII. When Israel captured Jerusalem, it was not from Palestinians, but from Jordan.

A. Questions:

1. Why didn’t Palestinians demand Jerusalem, when Jordan controlled it (1948-1967)?

2. Why didn’t the Jordanians create an independent Palestinian state with the West Bank? It was certainly in their power? The reason is simple. Jordanians made no distinction between Arabs that lived east of the Jordan and those who lived west of the Jordan. They were all Jordanian.

VIII. Israel had no plans on attacking Jordan during the Six Day War. However, King Hussein believed the false reports from Egyptian President Nasser of Egypt that they were winning the war. King Hussein, in hopes of getting more land, attacked Israel and his troops were driven back over the Jordan River in a matter of days. That is how Israel ended up with Jerusalem in 1967.

IX. There is no language known as Palestinian. They speak Arabic like Jordanians and Syrians and Egyptians.

X. There is no rich Palestinian history. You will not find history books that detail Palestinian culture going back centuries.

XI. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (a nation created by Great Britain 1922), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.

XII. Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of one percent of the landmass.[ii]

XIII. When the Jewish people began to return to ‘Palestine’ in the late 1800s:

A. The Turks, not the Arabs, controlled it

B. Every bit of Land was paid for by the returning Jews— nothing was stolen!

XIV. Israel was a swamp-infested wasteland that no one, including the Arabs really cared about. Until the Jews returned the land suffered neglect. It was only after the Jews came back and made the land prosperous and fruitful again and developed a nation, that the fictitious Palestinian history was developed.

XV. Religious Significance of Jerusalem

A. Jerusalem or Zion appears nearly ONE THOUSAND times in the Old and New Covenants, whereas it appears in the Koran exactly ZERO times!
The last thing that should be noted is that I wrote this to gets the facts out about Palestine. While the history may be made up, the Arabs who live among us here in Israel are real people who were made in God’s image. We must pray for their salvation.

[i] At the time of Christ the Jewish state was ruled by puppet kings of the Romans, the Herods. When the Jews revolted in 66 AD, the Romans destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem (70 AD). The Bar Kokba revolt between 132 and 135 AD was also suppressed, Jericho and Bethlehem were destroyed, and the Jews were barred from Jerusalem. The Roman Emperor Hadrian determined to wipe out the identity of Israel-Judah-Judea. Therefore, he took the name Palastina and imposed it on all the Land of Israel. At the same time, he changed the name of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina. The Romans killed many Jews and sold many more in slavery. Some of those who survived left the devastated country (and established Jewish communities throughout the Middle East) but there was never a complete abandonment of the Land of Israel. That is, there were always Jews and Jewish communities in Palestine, though the size and conditions of those communities fluctuated greatly. Hopefully it helps people get "it", "it" being the age-old hate Islamists have for Israel, as well as the real nature of their agenda.

Sat, 17 Apr 2010 12:30:54 -0700 Honor killing of 2 day old baby in Turkey http://middlebeast.org/honor-killing-of-2-day-old-baby-in-turkey http://middlebeast.org/honor-killing-of-2-day-old-baby-in-turkey

Endemic: Teen Medine Memi was recently buried alive for 'flirting' in Adiyaman, South Eastern Turkey

And they can’t fob us off with the usual ‘it was in the ‘Wild East’ excuse. This happened just outside Istanbul:

Turkish police Friday detained an unmarried mother and six other peoplenear Istanbul for their suspected role in the so-called “honor killing” of a 2-day-old baby girl, state news agency Anatolian said.

The baby was suffocated by her grandmother after the family learned the 25-year-old mother became pregnant out of wedlock, Anatolian said.

“My family decided to kill my baby,” the mother told the police, according to Anatolian. “My 55-year-old mother choked the baby with a cloth. Then, my brothers buried the baby in a hole in the garden and covered the hole with cement.”
Police found the body after receiving an anonymous phone call.

Among those detained were also a doctor and the doctor’s secretary, They allegedly had agreed not to register the baby’s birth in return for an undisclosed amount of money.

The baby’s father is doing his military service and was not involved in the incident.

“Honor killings,” or crimes carried out against women seen to have tainted the family’s name, are not uncommon in mainly Muslim Turkey, particularly in poor and rural areas.

The European Union, which Turkey has applied to join, has repeatedly urged Ankara to take a tougher stance against such crimes.

We accept that not all Turks behave in this way, but the more Turkey Islamises under AK Party rule, the more bloodthirsty barbarity such as this can be expected. How can the Eurocrats be seriously considering admitting this country into the EU?

Do they really think they can modify the behaviour of savages such as these?

Thu, 15 Apr 2010 12:06:06 -0700 Vienna mayor says Turkish schools 'possible' http://middlebeast.org/vienna-mayor-says-turkish-schools-possible http://middlebeast.org/vienna-mayor-says-turkish-schools-possible
Media_httpwwwaustrian_sdczh
Social Democratic (SPÖ) Vienna Mayor Michael Häupl revealed he could imagine Turkish schools in Austria. Speaking at a joint press conference with Kadri Ecvet Tezcan, Turkey’s ambassador in Austria, Häupl said today (Fri) he thought it was "possible" that there would be Turkish schools in the Austrian capital one day. The mayor also stressed however how important it was that young Turks living in Vienna take mother language courses. Around 6,000 immigrant students from the country currently sit such classes. Tezcan said experts have pointed out that mastering one’s mother tongue was essential to being able to learn a foreign language. He stressed this was a key condition for functioning integration. There are around 15,900 children of Turkish roots born in Turkey or Austria attending primary and secondary schools in the city. They make a 13.7 per cent share of children at primary schools, and a 17.8 per cent share at Hauptschulen (secondary modern schools). But attempts at ensuring a peaceful coexistence in Austria have suffered some sort of setback with the results of an IMAS survey revealing earlier this week that 54 per cent of Austrians agreed with the statement "Islam poses a threat for the west and our familiar lifestyle". The agency said it had also found out 72 per cent believed Muslims would "not stick to the rules" when it comes to living in Austria. Around 500,000 Muslims live in Austria, most of them in the western province of Vorarlberg and in Vienna. While Freedom Party (FPÖ) boss Heinz-Christian Strache said the IMAS study’s results confirmed his party’s policies, Greens MP Alev Korun said there must be more encounters and communication between people to reduce lack of knowledge about religions and lifestyles. "Not being informed about other’s living customs and religions is a hotbed for prejudice and fear," she claimed. Vienna People’s Party’s (ÖVP) integration issues spokeswoman Sirvan Ekici meanwhile claimed the Vienna SPÖ’s "failed integration policies" created perfect conditions for the policies of the right-wing FPÖ. Polls have shown that the ruling SPÖ is under threat of losing its absolute majority in this autumn’s Vienna parliament elections, while the FPÖ will almost certainly increase its share.

Thu, 01 Apr 2010 13:43:13 -0700 Somalia Militants Kill Church Leader; Crackdown On “Non-Islamic Culture” http://middlebeast.org/somalia-militants-kill-church-leader-crackdow-0 http://middlebeast.org/somalia-militants-kill-church-leader-crackdow-0

Al-Shabab fighters have killed another Christian church leader, Christians say.

MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (Worthy News)-- Somalia's feared Islamic militant group al-Shabab has warned Christians and other residents that it will crackdown on "non-Islamic culture" across the country, after its fighters reportedly killed another Christian leader and destroyed a tomb of a apparently moderate Muslim cleric.

"We aim to get rid of the barbaric and non-Islamic culture in the country," said Shebab official Sheik Ali Husein in published remarks monitored by Worthy News Wednesday, March 24.

He spoke just days after al-Shabab fighters reportedly shot and killed Madobe Abdi, the leader of an underground church in Mahaday village. His home was burned and destroyed, Christians said.

The incident apparently happened March 15 near the strategic town of Johwar, which al-Shabab captured last year. Jowhar is 90 kilometers south of the Somali capital Mogadishu and al-Shabab and the pro-government Islamic Courts Union have fought battles there. Abdi had escaped an earlier al-Shabab attempt this month to kidnap him, Christians said.

The militants allegedly prohibited his body from being buried, saying it must "be left to dogs"as an example to other Christians, who form a tiny minority in the country.
